The orthopedic staff consists of four orthopedic surgeons,
Ashraf Guirgues, M.D.,
Jeffrey K. Moore, M.D.,
Robert E. Coles, M.D.,
Thomas E. Bates, M.D. and two
physicians’ assistants,
Charles A. Pfaff, P.A.C. and
Steven J. Huber, P.A.C.
The department provides a full range of services in general orthopedics for
the care of injuries and conditions related to bones, joints, muscles, and
tendons. This includes most problems with the arms, hands, legs, feet, and
spine. The staff maintains a working relationship with orthopedic
sub-specialists at major regional medical centers including Duke, Chapel
Hill, and East Carolina, and consultation for complex orthopedic problems
can be promptly arranged. X-Ray services, including fluoroscopic
capabilities, are available on site. The facilities at Carteret Surgery
Center, which include the latest technology in arthroscopy, are utilized to
provide a pleasant outpatient surgical experience for those patients not
requiring inpatient hospitalization.
Among the services provided are hip and knee joint replacement surgery,
arthroscopic surgery, operative and non-operative fracture care, pediatric
orthopedics, sports injuries, foot and ankle surgery, carpal tunnel surgery,
hand, knee, shoulder, and elbow surgery.
