The general surgery department provides services concerning all aspects
of general surgical care with emphasis on gastrointestinal surgery,
gallbladder surgery, hernia surgery, and breast care. The department also
treats common vascular surgery conditions. The department maintains a
working relationship with general surgical sub-specialists at East Carolina
University, Chapel Hill, and Duke for consultation concerning complex
general and vascular surgical problems. Most major surgeries are performed
at Carteret General Hospital; however, for outpatient endoscopy, routine
hernia repair, and routine breast care, Carteret Surgery Center provides a
pleasant outpatient surgical experience.
Services provided include thyroid and parathyroid surgery, esophageal
surgery, treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease (severe indigestion),
gallbladder surgery, hepatobiliary surgery, pancreatic surgery, treatment of
complicated diverticulosis, treatment of colorectal cancer, common skin
cancers, soft tissue cancers, abdominal and inguinal hernia surgery, and
treatment of benign and malignant breast conditions.
Among the vascular surgery services provided are treatment of carotid
arterial disease, abdominal and peripheral aneurysmal disease, peripheral
arterial disease, peripheral venous insufficiency, and aortoiliac arterial
disease.
