Dr. Michael Bell and Dr. Ted Johnson Carteret Surgical Associates PA are Board Certified surgeons and are both members of the American  Society for Metabolic Bariatric Surgery. They both have a special interest in bariatric surgery and are currently  performing Lap-Band surgery in Morehead City with over 220 procedures performed in the last year.  Lap-Band surgery is a minimally invasive out-patient surgery which is rapidly becoming one of the most common bariatric procedures performed in the United States.

Carteret Surgical Associates’ Bariatric Program has put together a team of highly motivated and experienced surgeons, nurses and support staff to care for their Lap-Band patients. This includes an efficient and friendly preoperative evaluation and screening process as well as comprehensive long term follow-up.

The Lap-Band procedure can be performed with a small fraction of the potential risks and complications associated with other more invasive bariatric procedures.

The National Institute of Health supports the use of bariatric surgery in the severely obese, citing studies that show the procedures often reduce or eliminate many obesity-related conditions. Some of these conditions include hypertension, sleep apnea, diabetes, arthritis, vascular disease, and even some forms of cancer.

It is important to emphasize that weight loss surgery is in no way to be considered cosmetic surgery. Obesity is a chronic, frequently progressing, life-threatening disease. This surgery can improve the lives of those suffering from morbid obesity and the multiple medical illnesses associated with being overweight.
