Carolinas Center for Surgery - Spine Surgery: Success Stories

Recently, Dr. Guirgues with Carolina Center for Surgery did a 2 level cervical fusion on me at Carteret General Hospital. I just wanted to write and say thank you because I could not have been treated better at any other hospital or any other surgery center. From arriving that morning for surgery to being wheeled out to my car the next day, every moment in between ran smoothly. All the staff and physicians treated me kindly and I would recommend your group for surgery to anyone. It must take a great amount of work and coordination to arrange for such a professional, helpful, kind and even happy team working together.

After being diagnosed with a spine condition, Dr. Guirgues explained in detail what it meant and my options. The Doctor encouraged my question asking and responded in easy-to-understand answers. Dr. Guirgues suggested taking two weeks to decide how I wanted to proceed.

By my next appointment, I had made the decision to have corrective surgery. The Doctor then arranged for my wife, Rebecca, and me to tour the Carolina Center for Spine Surgery. We were able to view the spacious rooms with their specialized beds, baths, chairs, etc. We met the Care Staff who work exclusively at the Center under the guidance of Dr. Guirgues, and are trained for post-operative care.

During my post-operative stay at the Center, the Staff made me feel like I was the only patient they had to care for. Each day Dr. Guirgues would visit me to check my progress and answer any questions that I might have. The wonderful personal care that I received was really beyond what any words can describe. I felt as if they somehow could read my mind. No request or question was too small. Pressing the call button resulted in, what seemed like, instantaneous attention.

The help and encouragement from Dr. Guirgues, his assistant Sarah Eminger, the Care Staff, and physical therapists made my progress far more rapid than I had anticipated. At this time, I am well ahead of the “recovery schedule” and I believe it is due to the excellent care that I received and to my excellent surgeon.

I would recommend Dr. Guirgues to anyone who has a spine or back problem of whatever kind. He and his staff at the Center bring to our area a level of training, experience, and genuine caring for those of us with problems relating to the spine.

I consider my surgery a great success, and I am thankful every day that I was directed to Dr. Guirgues at the Carolinas Center for Spine Surgery.

Seven weeks ago, we met just after midnight in the ER of Carteret General Hospital, where you were on-call. After some introductory discussion, you proceeded to treat my daughter for a spiral fracture of her left tibia. Her fibula was also fractured but required no surgical intervention.

The device implanted was a Synthes Tibial nail with two distal and two proximal locking screws. She was released from CGH two days after surgery, returned to Raleigh and has been since followed by Dr. David Fajgenbaum of the Raleigh Bone & Joint Group.

The reduction achieved was excellent and she is progressing in excellent fashion. Having been a Zimmer distributor for 20 years, I have observed first-hand hundreds of orthopedic surgeries, including many trauma procedures. You did an outstanding job with a difficult fracture. Also, we were extremely pleased with the level of nursing care she received at CGN, as well as the state-of-the art facilities. We have told many of our Atlantic Beach property owning friends from Raleigh of our experience at CGH and assured them they are in excellent hands if they ever require emergency orthopedic treatment while on vacation.
