I have had a weight problem all of my life with multiple health issues. I came to a point in my life that I had to get control of my health problems to gain a better quality of life. I had Lap Band surgery in September 2008 and have lost over 100 pounds. My health issues have resolved and I have much more energy for life. It certainly has been a life changing event. For many years, I’ve struggled with being overweight. My heaviest weight was 435 pounds and becoming more than I could bear. I'm so thankful to my Endocrinologist, Dr. Mary Catherine Lawrence for referring me to Dr. Johnson for Lap Band surgery. I couldn’t be happier with my surgeon. I had Lap Band surgery in November 2008. I felt that this surgery was the best option for me – I found gastric bypass to be too invasive as a surgery option. I was 40yo and ready to make a lifestyle change so I would be healthier and live longer. I wanted to be able to play with my grandchildren in the front yard one day. I wanted to travel and not be hindered by my weight which had been a problem all my life.

Lap Band surgery was the best decision I have ever made! My heaviest recorded weight was 281lbs. I now weigh 164lbs!! I look and feel GREAT!! Dr. Johnson is not just my surgeon, he is a part of my support group which includes the staff and the lap band support group that meets monthly after the seminars at the Civic Center in Morehead City. My support group also includes my family, friends and co-workers. I feel like a rock star every time I see Dr. Johnson for a visit or a check-up. He is supportive, informative, and caring of me and my health.

My Lap Band journey has been interesting. I have lost approximately 120lbs and am off all prescription medications except two. I suffered from high blood pressure, joint and body aches, pain, and lethargy. Also, I feel I was pre-diabetic but that this condition had not been diagnosed. Since surgery and weight loss, I feel great on a daily basis. I’m no longer fatigued or hindered by my weight. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
